Your home is a system. When looking at energy-saving upgrades to your home it needs to be looked at as a system. Every part of your home is just a small piece of an intricate system. Insulation, windows, furnace, hot water tank, ventilation, ECT, all these parts must work together. Each part must work at peak performance or no part can give you its full benefit.

For example:

New furnace with inadequate insulation

If you install a new 98% high efficiency furnace but your attic is under insulated, all the heat your super high efficient furnace produces will escape out through the attic. So the furnace does not solve the problem. It gets overworked and breaks down much faster. Add new Michigan-made Applegate insulation and seal your duct work and now you’re saving money.

Improper attic ventilation

An under-ventilated attic will trap excess heat and moisture. Excess attic heat will radiate into the living space causing your A/C system to be overworked and lose performance. Moisture can also cause performance loss. Adding 1½% moisture content to your insulation can reduce its effectiveness by 36%. Less insulating value means your furnace is overworked and will lose performance. Furnaces don’t work without insulation, insulation doesn’t work without ventilation. Each component relies on the other to work properly. This is why we look at the house as a system.
